Feeling frustrated?

I'm pretty familiar with frustration, I would say it's my most frequently accessed 'negative' emotion. I'm fast paced, creative and option orientated but the shadow side of these strengths is that I can get quickly frustrated when being blocked, slowed down or penned in.

I expect you're pretty familiar with this too, it does tend to crop up regularly. But this weekend, when I was feeling frustrated with myself for feeling frustrated (yes that's a thing), two more helpful and compelling thoughts also went through my head:

Frustration simply signals to us that we need to create some movement, to change something, to consider a different route. Following this insight will ultimately result in a better outcome. So the next time I'm feeling frustrated (I expect it won’t be long!) I'm determined to lean into it. To have a good look at the trigger and consider whether it's re-directing me to something better.

If frustration isn't an example that you identify with, ask yourself what's on the shadow side of your strengths? What happens when you overplay them? And does that tell you something interesting about yourself or what you want?

P.S.  In short, frustration can be a useful emotion. It tells us to have a look at what's really going on and make a change.
