Want change? Repeat repeat repeat

Say that you've been working with a coach, or investing in your personal development through reading and stretching your thinking. It's likely that through raising your self-awareness in this way, you'll notice that there are things you are doing to prevent you from reaching your goals. This is the first light bulb moment - realising that you create your outcomes.

The second light bulb moment is where people then uncover specifically what it is they want to change, in order to achieve the outcome they want - and to be clear about it. Not everyone has these thoughts, they’re only happening in driven, engaged people.

So how do we create that change? Today’s concept is simple: change doesn't have to be as hard as we think it does. Think about how you got to where you are today. You likely haven't actively constructed your identity (which is impacting your thoughts and behaviours), it’s probably happened naturally through repetition - over time, repetition makes everything easier.

One day you didn't know how to walk. You kept attempting it until you could. One day you didn't feel ready for your current role. Now you've moved beyond it and are ready for the next step.

So what happens is we repeat a series of thoughts and actions until they become an ingrained part of us. Similar to creating and sustaining habits. Therefore - and you can see where this is going - to create change, we needn't be overwhelmed at the task of it.

We simply need to identify which NEW thoughts and behaviours/ actions to repeat to give our identity an upgrade and help us to be the person we want to be. The person who achieves the outcomes we want.

There are lots of great books about creating strong habits - I particularly like James Clear's book Atomic Habits. But notice the core message today - and that is you are already well rehearsed in repetition. You've been doing it your whole life. It's made you who you are today. The only edit is to pick something new and helpful and repeat that instead. You've got this.
