I know why you don’t have what you want...

Time for a truth-bomb…

You don’t have what you want because there’s a part of you that is feeling threatened by having it.

A part that believes it’s not safe for you to have it.

This could be triggered by a number of things, so without knowing more about you it’s hard for me to be specific. It’s often a fear of rejection. If we achieve xyz our friends wont like us anymore. Or if we try and fail, our old friends won’t want us anymore.

It’s a deep rooted, tribal fear - we’re designed for social connection.

So how do we combat this wiring in our brains that can keep us from progressing towards our potential and purpose? Loads of different ways - I essentially write about different ideas each week in this blog!

One for today is to check out these motivators, which I heard at a talk by Mastin Kipp in London this week:

Do the thing that’s on your mind because...

- You want to prove the naysayers wrong

- You want to prove your supporters right

- You want to take care of family/ loved ones

- You have a higher mission/ calling.

Typically one or more of these will resonate. You’re looking for a spark of energy when you read one. What creates grit and determination for you?

What gives you enough fuel to fight the wiring in your brain that’s keeping you stuck (but safe)?

Use one of these to drive career related action this week. Hit reply, I’m curious to know which motivators are most impactful for the readers of this blog - I’ll share the most popular response with you next week.

P.S. Part of us is scared of the things we want. One way to overcome this is to have a powerful motivator.
