It's more attainable than we think...

Creating change in our lives often feels like a big deal. It can feel like our dreams/ intentions/ goals are years away or even impossible to reach. Here’s a perspective I saw online that made me smile and think:

"When people talk about travelling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small.
But barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small."

So good. And I do enjoy a time travel plot line! We logically understand the cumulative impact of our actions. If we take a step every day we will get the result. (i.e. if I read 5 pages a day, soon I will have that read that book I keep menaing to finish).
But often we’re not actually taking steps. We’re caught up with thinking how unattainable it is to fit reading that book into our life, or how we’ll have to do another 2 years hard graft before we might be given accountability for managing a big project at work. We make things appear difficult because they feel ‘big’ - but successful people are simply taking those ‘big’ things one step at a time, every day.

Tip for leaders: help your team crunch down your big vision into manageable steps. A company vision/ mission can start off inspiring - but if it feels too difficult to achieve, you can actually demotivate your staff and they will switch off. Paint the big picture and then tell the story of how you’re getting there together step by step every day.

So it’s a short one today to remind us all that we KNOW small steps today have a massive impact on our future. So it’s time to start taking them.
