Everything is figureoutable

This is a philosophy, belief and mindset we can all apply:
Everything is figureoutable.

It’s a quote from Marie Forleo and the title of her new book, in an early section she talks about training your brain for growth. I expect that given you’re reading a blog about developing your leadership and career skills, you’ve heard of a ‘growth mindset’.

But did you know that our brains are wired to shut down if we’re hearing something that we perceive we already know? Our brain prioritises new information - it looks for shortcuts to stay efficient. So if it already knows something, it disengages.

Whilst we need this function to keep us sane (our brains get hit by 11m pieces of information per second), it’s dangerous for learning and improvement. Because you’re not listening or absorbing new insights and applications. You’ve unintentionally dropped into a fixed mindset.

So every time you catch yourself thinking ‘I know this already’ instead ask yourself ‘what can I learn from this’. Actively seek out the learning opportunity so that your brain is engaged.

The second common challenge Marie mentions is our tendency to respond flippantly to new information with ‘this won’t work for me’. We’ve all been guilty of this right?! Such an easy way to not try.

Instead ask yourself ‘how can this work for me’.

These two new questions will flip you into a growth mindset, ready to learn and improve.
With a mindset like this, everything you want is achievable, because everything is figureoutable.
